Double Island Point sits at the northern end of Rainbow Beach, where the coloured sand cliffs give way to a headland of coastal scrub and wildflowers that most visitors never reach. Getting there requires commitment – a 4WD on the beach or a decent walk – and that effort keeps it in the condition it’s in. The wildflowers here grow right to the edge of the headland, the ocean visible behind them, the two subjects existing in a relationship that a more accessible location would have long since trampled.

The portrait orientation was the natural choice here, framing the flowers in the foreground and the ocean as the backdrop in a single, layered composition that follows the geography of the place.

It’s a print about the reward for going further than most people do. The flowers are there because the place is hard to reach. The image exists for the same reason.
