Maleny is high enough on the Sunshine Coast hinterland escarpment to experience something that most of subtropical Queensland doesn’t have: genuine autumn colour. The deciduous trees planted on the farms and along the roadsides here – maples, liquid ambers, elms – turn properly in May and June, and in a good year the combination of autumn colour and the surrounding subtropical green creates something visually extraordinary.
