There’s a dead tree on a ridge in the Sunshine Coast hinterland that I’ve photographed more times than I can count. It stands alone above the surrounding scrub, its bare branches visible against the sky from a long distance away, and at sunrise – when the warm light catches it from the east and the sky behind it is still dark – it looks like it was placed there deliberately. Skeleton Tree earns its name, but it photographs more beautifully than almost any living tree in the same location.
