The Washing Machine is the name given to a rock pool at Coolum Beach where the surf surges in over the rocks and creates a churning, circular motion in the trapped water. At golden hour, when the warm light turns the water and the rocks the same deep amber, the pool and the swirling water take on a colour that earned this image its title. The gold of the water in the pool, the gold of the breaking wave, and the gold of the sky above are essentially indistinguishable.
